In Charge! is available for either Windows 95/98/NT (4.0) - or - OS/2.
Both versions require:

1. A PC or PS/2 compatible computer.
2. A fixed disk with at least 20MB of available space.

The Main In Charge! Control Panel

The main In Charge! dialog is the "control panel". From it you can access all functions from the menu. The "Quick Access Buttons" allow you to directly access commonly used functions without going through the menu. You can define 10 of the buttons to access functions (120 other primary dialogs) not covered by the first 23 buttons and you can assign your own bitmaps to those buttons. Normally this is the first dialog displayed in an In Charge! session, but if you usually go immediately to a specific funtion, such as an account register, you can specify that control is to be transfered immediately to that dialog upon starting the In Charge! session.

With the account register dialog you can post a new transaction or edit, void, delete, and move (to another account) existing transactions. You can also switch to another account, reconcile an account statement, query the account to search for transactions on various criteria, print the statement, save it to a text file, transfer it to a word processor for inclusion in a document, and customize the fonts and colors used to display the register.

Posting a New Transaction to an Account

Posting a new transaction to an account can be invoked from a number of different dialogs including directly from the Main dialog and Register dialog. With this feature you can post transactions to an account, schedule payments via CheckFree Electronic Bill Payment Service, and print checks. You can also spread a transaction over an unlimited number of budget categories and/or tax categories.

You can, with a single transaction, process the electronic payment of an unlimited number of bills and/or make an unlimited number of transafers of amounts to other accounts. You can attach an unlimited number of notes/memos to a transaction. You can, via the Correct menu item, edit, void, delete, and move transactions. You can reconicle an account statement, query an account to search for transactions on various criteria, adjust the account balance, display budget reports, select multiple bills for payment, and run predefined batch transactions (which can consisted of an unlimited number of predefined transactions). When posting a transaction for the purchase of an item, you can simultaneously add the item to your home inventory. While this dialog is an extremly powerful dialog, it is simple to use.

There are logical defaults for all fields except payee and amount. Only the amount field is required to post a new transaction to an account. The payee is "remembered" from past transactions and as you enter it, the one most closely matching a previous payee is displayed. If you select a "remembered" payee, all of the other fields are automatically filled in with the information from the last transaction posted for the payee. You can still edit the other fields, making required changes for this new transaction.

As you enter transactions with this dialog, they are logged to the Transaction Log dialog which can be checked for what transations have already been posted during this session.
