Flash Renamer has a simple and intuitive layout that makes finding and renaming your files a breeze. The options in the right pane for finding files are as good as any file manager. You can list only files, files and directories, etc. It even provides thumbnail previews for image files.

MP3 Tools

Flash Renamer is great for renaming and organizing your MP3 collection. The program reads the ID tags stored with most all MP3 files and allows you to easily catalog your music by naming the files with any combination of information available in the ID; including artist, title, album, length, track number, genre, year, and more! I was amazed at how easily I was able to apply a common naming convention to my entire collection that I had recorded over the years. It even allows you to move the files into a new directory based on the tag from the ID that you specify.

Attributes & Date

With this feature you can set the attributes and dates of files. This would be an easy way to set or remove the Read Only attribute from large numbers of files, or any other attribute.

Add & Crop | Find & Replace

Need to append a prefix to a list of files? There can't be an easier way! If you have files submitted to you for any reason, you know that enforcing naming rules can be quite a chore. With Flash Renamer, that doesn't matter any more. Need to replace spaces with an underscore (_)? No problem! You can even adjust the case of filenames and extensions independant of each other.

Format

This setting will allow you to apply a specific format to each file. With options to add information such as file size, date, time, random characters and other information, the possibilities are virtually limitless. There are also options specific to directory names that will allow you name a directory based on the content, number of files, date and more.

Enum

If you ever wanted to sequentially number files in a directory, this is the tool. One click and your files are numbered! There is also a feature that will 'normalize' any numbers in filenames. Normalizing numbers in your filenames will add zeros to the beginning of any numbers found so that all numbers are the length that you specify.

Conclusion

There are lots of file management software titles available, but with it's intuitive interface and fast performance, Flash Renamer is the single best file 'naming' utility I have seen. This is one of those products that does one thing, and does it very well! There are lots of great features that extend file naming to a level I never really thought of before I tried this program. One of the best things about this program though is the price, $14.99! Not many software titles made this well and this usefull go for that kind of price. Yes, it is a small utility, but the amount of time and work it can save is well worth the price.
