A logophile myself, I was greatly intrigued by this week's assignment, to review WordSheets 5.0. This program allows you to create your own crossword puzzles, word scrambles, and word searches. And it is so easy. Begin by choosing the words you want to use. Included in the program is a variety of pre-existing word lists - ranging from elementary to advanced. Using these lists is a good way to get started. You are able to use the entire list, select specific words, combine multiple lists, and add your own words and clues. This program even lets you make custom word lists and save them for future use.

Once you have chosen your words, the program takes care of everything else, automatically and fast. Upon generating the game, with the click of a button, the preview window pops up. (You must be hooked up to a printer in order for the program to create your game and to preview it.) It is in the preview window that you are able to assign all your specifications for the layout and style of the game.

This program is very basic in that it is what it is - a word game creator, but its options are endless. You can assign innumerable variations to any game. This program is geared toward educators. Anyone who tries it will quickly see what a fun and indispensable tool for teaching this program is. The demo version allows you to print ten games. Group rates and other discounts are available.
