Araxis Merge 2000
Araxis Merge 2000 is a simple program designed for comparing, contrasting, and merging files and folders. It is geared toward those who work with several revisions of text files.
Merge 2000 allows you to open two different versions of the same document on the same screen. Linking lines between the two files show the relation of the two files. Areas of difference are highlighted so that the user can clearly see any changes to the document that have been made. (In the Professional version, the program notes detailed changes within the lines). Highlighted text denotes either a change, and addition, or a deletion. Once the differences are identified, in-place editing and point-and-click merging allow you to make any necessary changes. You can also replace an entire block of text or append it to the document.
With Merge 2000, you are able to compare and merge entire folders. Once you open both folders, icons will appear next to each file indicating its status. This makes it clear as to what files are new, missing, changed, and which is the more recent.
Several options are available with this program. You are able to choose the font, the color of highlighted areas, and the thoroughness of a folder check just to name a few. Also, in the Professional version, you have the option of a three-window screen.
The tutorials are concise and easy to follow. They provide you with three different scenarios for which Merge 2000 can be useful. These instances can easily be applied to your own situation. It is extremely easy to use. I mastered this program in under an hour.
