The ZapA allows you to use your Iomega ATAPI Zip Drive as if it were a high-capacity floppy drive.

You will even be able to boot from a Zip disk!

The ZapA is installed in the Master Boot Record (MBR) of Drive C. It is loaded before the Operating System and will automatically detect an ATAPI Zip drive that is connected.

The ZapA will then configure the Zip drive detected as either Drive A or Drive B. The Zip drive will be detected even if there is no disk in it.

If the Zip drive is configured as Drive A, you will be able to boot from it as if it were any normal diskette. We have even successfully installed full Windows 95 on a Zip disk configured as A: and boot from it.

The ZapA will occupy between 4 to 5 KBytes of main memory when it is loaded.

Compatibility:

The ZapA is resident in the Master Boot Record(MBR) of your hard disk. It will not work with most other MBR programs including boot sector virus programs and EZ-Drive. The registered version of The ZapA is Power-Chain-enabled and it will work with Power Boot, a utility that allows you to boot different operating systems from different partitions. The ZapA will work with Ontrack Disk Manager.

The ZapA has been tested with MSDOS 6.22 and Windows 95. Operation with other operating systems will probably be limited e.g. you may be able boot from the Zip drive but not access the drive as Drive A or B.

You can still run Guest or other IOMEGA drivers. These programs will install the Zip drive as a hard drive but you will still be able to access the same drive as either Drive A or B.

The ZapA has been developed according to the new ATAPI Removable Media Device(ARMD) BIOS Specification developed by Compaq and Phoenix Technologies If you have trouble with Iomega's device drivers for the Zip drive, do not expect The ZapA to do miracles. We hope it does because it will definitely increase demand, but incompatibility problems may be due to hardware issues.
