WebDrive is a Windows 95 network redirector that makes an Internet FTP site look like a network drive. It provides read and write file operations, file caching, and directory creation/deletion. The FTP protocol doesn't allow for random access to files so when a file is opened by the file system WebDrive will download the file to a local cache and then provide random access to the file system. If the file is opened and then modified, it will be transferred to the FTP server when the file is closed.

WebDrive has the following features:

• Site Manager Application - Use this application to enter FTP site information such as URL name, user name and password, and drive letter to map when connected. This application is similar to the Windows 95 dial up networking shell extension.
• Network Monitor Application - Use this application to monitor FTP commands, give connection status, and file transfer statistics. This application normally runs minimized as an icon in the Windows 95 tray on the toolbar. To display the monitor user interface double click the icon or use the right mouse button to display a menu.
• Network Provider - This portion of WebDrive allows you use the Map Network Drive button in Explorer to connect to an FTP site. When enabled the WebDrive network provider integrates FTP drive's into the Windows file system. You can make FTP drive mappings persistent, that is when Windows 95 boots it can map a network drive to an FTP site. This feature would be useful for a company with a remote FTP site and a dedicated connection to the Internet.
• Firewall/Proxy server support - Login through a variety of proxy servers and firewalls.
• Shell Extensions - Property page and context menu shell extensions integrates WebDrive with the Windows Explorer.
• File Caching - WebDrive caches both file and directory listings for quick access. You can control the amount of disk space used for the cache, and whether to cache files, directory listings, or both.
