SoMail SMPT/POP3 server is a program executed under Windows NT (3.51 , 4.0 or 2000) as a service. Its function is to send and receive messages via Internet using the SMTP protocol and to make received messages available in the user's directory or via the POP3 protocol. Direct access to messages is supported from the local network using the SoMail client.
SoMail can be used also at local network without permanent access to Internet, providing internal mail and Internet mail via RAS (dial-up) link. The server can monitor one external POP3 mailbox for each user of the local network, retrieving the mail at a programmed time interval. The SoMail server is characterized by its ease of installation. In contrast to other similar programs, all you need is one file - SMAILSRV.EXE which also contains the Control Panel applet. Even with lots of users, it will not eat all resources from your server. All users with accounts in the domain (or on the local workstation) and which have a "home" directory defined in their configuration, are recognized as valid addresses by the SMTP/POP3 server. This considerably eases system administration, as it makes it unnecessary to register users for the mail services. Mail forward and auto reply can be configured for each user, and distribuition lists are supported. SoMail can also be configured for refuse mail from any address or group of addresses he mail relay can be disabled for users outside domain to avoid mail spamming. A small version of this server, limited to one workstation and 4 users is free with the client version SoMail v2.0M, available as shareware. The network version is available under request for $300,00, and supports up to 2048 users by default (or more under request). Special versions with other features may be done under request. |
