MyMovies

Collecting your own library of movie titles is fun. Today, you can not only buy the latest movies within a few months of their theatrical debut, you can also pick up classic titles on DVD and view them with greater clarity than ever before.
As your collection of movies grows, you'll soon reach the point of trying to track which titles you own and which you don't. Which are on DVD and which are on VHS (that you might want to upgrade to DVD).

A Growing Problem
Keeping track of all these titles can become a major headache. One sure way to know you've got a problem is when you rent an old movie only to find you already own it!
Don't laugh. This has happened to me. More than once!

But since I added one title to my collection, it has never happened again!

So Just Write Down The Movies. What's Wrong With That?
Nothing.
Except keeping that written list up to date is a challenge.

Let me tell you my story: My wife (who is very organized) started a written list of movies we own. She carried it as a reference when we went movie shopping (to buy movies or to rent).

But soon, the list grew so long that she had multiple sheets of paper. And then some of the sheets were misplaced. So more sheets were added and some titles were duplicated while others somehow were overlooked.

And of course, none of the lists were in alphabetical order.

Losing Time. Losing Money.
So we spent time...a lot of time, scanning the lists to find out if we had a particular movie or not. We knew our manual system wasn't working when we rented a movie and found, after we returned home, we already had it in our collection.
We could see this happening again and again as our film collection grew larger. This was serious. It was costing us money. There had to be a better way.

The MyMovies Solution
We went to work to devise a simple, effective, and easy-to-use system to keep track of all those movies. With heavy emphasis on the easy-to-use part.
Our solution had to have...

  • A quick way to add movies (and, of course, edit them)
  • A simple way to handle actors and genres, as well as titles
  • The ability to sort movies by title, actor, genre, etc.
  • A powerful search routine to quickly find groups of movies by any criteria
  • Great printing options to list everything in a variety of ways

The result was MyMovies, a program so easy to use you can get started almost without reading the help file (but do read it — it explains a lot of neat features!)
