Magellan Explorer offers a wide range of functions, features and modes to make your file management easy and flexible, including:

Features

Complete drag and drop support. Whether you are inside an archive, on a FTP site or in your Download folder, you can use drag and drop to copy or move files and folders.

Background Operations. Magellan Explorer performs all time consuming file operations in the background. This means an end to sitting idly waiting for that big Copy or Zip operation to complete.

The progress dialog gives you complete control over any ongoing operation, and even allows you to schedule what transfers that should be running and in what order.

Dual Window and Explorer Mode. If you enjoy using the dual window approach popularized by Norton Commander you'll feel right at home with Magellan Explorer.

On the other hand, if you would just like to browse your hard drive the familiar Windows Explorer approach is just a click away.

Integrates with your system. You can associate it with the archive formats to get system-wide support for them. Another option is to have it present in the right-click context menu to quickly open any folder in Magellan Explorer.

Magellan Explorer provides all the basic functionality found in Windows Explorer, complete with features such as mouse wheel support, QuickEdit rename and large icons, small icons and list views.

Extensive keyboard support. Almost every tool and feature in Magellan Explorer is reachable by keyboard. And best of all, most shortcuts are user-configurable!

Built-in File Viewer

The new version comes with both a small and fast text viewer and an advanced multi-format viewer based on ActiveX technology.

Navigation Tools

Bookmarks. Keep all your favorite folders and FTP sites within close reach by bookmarking them. History. Move back and forward on your harddrive or on a FTP site.

Drive Bar. You get single click access to all your drives on this toolbar. QuickBar. Located near the folder window the Quick Bar gives you easy access to your favorite tools.

Popular. This menu gives you access to all your most used applications, files, folders, archives and FTP sites.

QuickClick Parent. With this option enabled you can navigate to the parent folder just by moving your cursor to the edge of the folder window, and clicking with the left mouse button. The right mouse button on the other hand will take you to the root of the drive.

Spring Loaded Folders. This is another time saving feature. If you during a drag and drop operation hold the mouse over a folder for a short while Magellan Explorer will navigate into that folder allowing you to drop the files on a sub folder.

Compressed Archive Support

Magellan Explorer supports Zip, Cab, Rar, Ace, Arj and Lha. Archives are opened as if they were folders and you may copy and move files in the same manner.

Install and CheckOut. Installing programs you have downloaded from the Internet is extremely simple. Choose Install from the Archive menu and Magellan Explorer will extract the program files to a temporary folder and start the installation wizard. Choosing CheckOut will create a folder with the contents of the archive.

Auto-Update. If you edit any files within an archive you can get Magellan Explorer to automatically repack the archive to include the changes.

Archive-to-Archive and Archive-to-FTP . There is no need to worry whether the target or source of your file operations are archives or FTP sites. Magellan Explorer does all the extracting, uploading etc. for you in the background.

Self extracting archives. To create a self extracting archive just rename a Zip file to an Exe and Magellan Explorer will take care of the rest.

FTP Support

Just as with archives FTP sites are opened as if they were normal folders. Uploading and downloading of files are no different from local Copy operations.

Server-to-Server (FXP). Transfer files directly between two remote FTP servers.

Ftp-to-Archive. There is no need to worry whether the target or source of your file operations are archives or FTP sites. Magellan Explorer does all the extracting, uploading etc. for you in the background.

Clipboard URL Monitor. Magellan Explorer can monitor the Windows clipboard to detect any FTP URLs. Once it discoverers a FTP site address it can automatically open it.

Find and Folder Size. These tools works on FTP sites as well as on local files and folders.

Keep alive. Normally you will get disconnected from a FTP server if do not perform any commands over a fixed period of time. By using this option Magellan Explorer will keep the connection up and running all the time.

Up ten concurrent connections. Stop single-tasking your FTP sessions, have several sites opened at the same time! You can quickly switch between them from the list in the FTP menu.

Download in separate thread. Continue navigation the site while the download is performed in a separate thread.

Auto-Update. If you edit any files on the FTP site you can get Magellan Explorer to automatically upload the file(s) to include the changes.

Toolbox

File Descriptions - Add description to your files which can be viewed in the folder window. Supports the 4DOS format.

Filter - Remove the clutter from being displayed in large folders by using the Filter tool.

Folder Size - Calculates the space the selected folders (and their respective sub folders) occupy on the harddrive and displays the size in the Size column.

Clone - Create a backup copy of important files with a single click.

Group Attribute - Remove that read-only attribute from all the files you copied from a CD within seconds.

Group Rename - There is no need to manually rename large groups of files, let Group Rename do the job for you.

Virtual Folder - Now you can group files together without having to copy and move them around on your harddrive.

Folder Synchronization - Keep your work and backup folder up to sync using this simple tool.

Time Stamp - Edit all the time and date information associated with a file with just a few clicks.

Custom Tools - Magellan Explorer supports user defined tool. Harness the power of your existing utilities by integrating them into the Magellan Explorer interface.

Customization Options

You can configure virtually every aspect of Magellan Explorer. The options below are just some of the settings available.

Themes/Wizard. The Configuration Wizard lets you choose hotkeys, button panel layout and files selection method. Or you can use Themes to emulate your favorite filemanager.

File selection - The selection method is completely customizable. You may use left or right mouse button, sticky multiple files selection or Ctrl and Shift combinations. If you prefer it, Magellan Explorer can even remember your selections even after you have left a folder.

Layout/look. If you like your Button Panel on top, in the middle or at the left, your Drive Bar to the right or the left of the menu, Magellan Explorer can handle it all. You can also get gradient on the titlebars without Windows 98 and have the application icon in the system tray.

Over a hundred different options! That's right, all in all there are over a hundred different ways to configure Magellan Explorer. Let it adapt to your preferences, not the other way around.
