Internet Backup

Island CodeWorks Internet Backup is a tapeless backup program. Instead of using diskettes, tapes or portable drives to back up your computer, Island CodeWorks Internet Backup uses disk space on a computer somewhere on the Internet. This computer could reside somewhere in your business in a secure location, at your Internet Service Provider's location, or better yet, somewhere in a different city, state or country.

Island CodeWorks Internet Backup uses existing space on an FTP server. An FTP server is simply a computer running FTP server software. A computer running Windows 95 with the Microsoft personal Web server installed is an example of an FTP server that you can use. Other examples include Windows NT Internet Server, LINUX Red Hat FTP server, WSFTPD, and others. All you need to use Island CodeWorks Internet Backup is an FTP server in a secure location with sufficient disk space and an account on that FTP server with privileges to allow you to create and remove directories and files. Check with your Internet Service Provider. Often they will provide you with space for backups as part of a package.

Island CodeWorks Internet Backup features:
  • Support for Full and Incremental Backups to FTP server
  • A backup scheme based on available space on an FTP server. This is much more convenient than tape or diskette-based backups
  • Data compression to minimize backup space and time
  • Data encryption to help keep your private files private
  • A command-line option to enable scheduling of regular backups
  • Multiple FTP sites
  • Multiple backup sets
  • Explorer-like interface
  • Long file names
  • Phone dialer and scheduler enabling completely unattended and automatic backups
