S.M.A.R.T. stands for "Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology"

It is a system whereby the hard disk has the intelligence to analyse itself and report any problems that could lead to failure and a subsequent loss of data.

SMART Pro enables S.M.A.R.T. on IDE hard disks that support this technology. It then requests the current S.M.A.R.T. status from the hard disk(s). If there is a chance of an impending failure, this is reported and you are encouraged to back up your data and perhaps seek a professional's advice on what to do next : replace or repair the hard disk.

All this is done before the operating system loads.

SMART Pro installs itself in the MBR (Master Boot Record) of your hard disk. It is not compatible with other MBR programs from other software companies except Disk Manager. If you are using EZ-Drive, Bluesky Innovations LLC proposes an alternative called Power Bios Lite that works for large hard drives and is compatible with SMART Pro.
