WebMirror is an advanced off-line browsing tool that allows you to re-create sections of the World Wide Web directly on your hard drive or local network. You can save particular pages, complete with text, links and graphics. Once the Web pages are saved to your hard drive (that is, once you have "captured" them), you can refer back to the information at any time, without an online connection and additional connection charges.

WebMirror can be used by network administrators to provide access to frequently-used web sites to their corporate intranets or to provide secure web browsing to selected web sites without the needs of expensive firewalls, routers and Internet connections.

WebMirror can also be used by CDROM makers to dump entire web sites on CDROM without worrying about editing web pages to reflect the local storage organization and limitations, the pages are retrieved directly from the original web site and stored in a standard 8+3 database file.

WebMirror is also useful to privates who don't want to spend money reading the page's contents on-line, they can retrieve an entire site or even a portion of it then disconnect and enjoy reading without worrying about the phone bill going to the stars.

WebMirror provides the following features:

* Web Site Mirroring

WebMirror retrieves HTML documents, inline images, and linked files to the local computer system. All links traversed are retrieved, regardless of file format. WebMirror even retrieves some clickable image maps

* Web Proxy Server

WebMirror works as a proxy server for your Web browser. Once you have it set up, WebMirror makes viewing local and online web pages transparent. Since WebMirror keeps a database of all your captured pages, it handles the loading of Web pages, automatically choosing whether the page comes from your local database of captured sites or is retrieved from the Internet. You can even export to disk the HTML and related files for a specified site.

For people who must use a proxy server to access beyond a firewall, WebMirror allows the use of a proxy server. It is fully compatible with firewall/proxy servers.

* Update Scheduler

WebMirror lets you schedule updates to captured pages. You can renew existing pages or capture new pages or both. You can schedule updates for individual pages on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. WebMirror only downloads changed pages, saving you time and money.

* Automatic Dialer

WebMirror can automatically dial your Internet Service Provider to capture scheduled pages using the entries in your Dial-Up Networking phone book. After all the required pages are captured, WebMirror will automatically disconnect the line.

* Use standard file names

WebMirror stores files in a single database file with a standard 8.3 DOS file name. The use of HPFS drives, while suggested for performance reasons and for exporting captured sites to disk, is not required.

* Depth restriction

WebMirror processes links in a breadth-first search pattern. In a breadth-first search, all links from a document are traversed, then all links from the traversed documents are followed. By restricting the depth of the search, you limit the number of links to be followed. You should be cautious since a breadth-first search may exponentially increase the number of links to follow at each depth.
